The Hitachi EMU train refers to the retired Hitachi electric multiple unit EMU trains that operated on the Melbourne suburban network from 1972 to 2014. Known for their stainless steel bodies, and were the first suburban trains in Melbourne to have heated carriages and power-operated doors. The fleet was gradually replaced by newer trains and was fully retired by the end of 2014, with a farewell tour held in April 2014.
